Two-way player, Shohei Ohtani renewed his 2017’s contract on 5th December 2016. Otani won 10 games as a pitcher and his batting average was .322 (32.2%) and number of homers was 22 in this season, this means he was hugely successful. Some MLB (Major League Baseball) teams are very interested in him now.
According to the person interested, a Japanese professional baseball team he belongs to, Nippon Ham Fighters, allowed him to go MLB team in 2017-2018 off season.
Usually players who want to move MLB teams need to get free agent right and takes 9 years from his joining to get the right. Shohei Ohtani started his career from 2013, which means only 4 years elapsed. In short, he can’t move to MLB team in the next off season.
But if Otani uses a posting system, he can go to MLB team. This system allows MLB teams to bid for Otani, and the team which can pay the highest price for Otani can get right to negotiate with the player. The difference from free agent right is, the team which Otani belongs to can get transfer fees from MLB team. Nippon Ham Fighters allowed Otani to use the posting system in the next off season.
We are really looking forward to seeing his play in MLB!
