Starbucks Coffee Japan has announced that they’re going to hold an event named “Nothing is Charming” which all lights in the cafes will be turned off for an hour on December 11, 2017.
The light-down event aims at making people recognizing the importance of energy saving and measures against global warming. The concept of the event is that it lets people enjoy “Nothing” and rethink our life without lights. The use of any electronic devices is also prohibited during the event. The date December 11 is the 20th anniversary of the Kyoto Protocol agreed in 1997, which is an international treaty to reduce greenhouse gas.
The event will be held from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Dec 11. Original coasters printed with luminous paint and LED candles will be distributed. A workshop creating origami(Japanese art of paper folding) lantern will be held for free too.
481 Starbucks coffee in Hokkaido, Akita, Miyagi, Gunma, Nagano, Ibaraki, Yamanashi, Gifu, Shizuoka, Aichi, Mie, Osaka, Kyoto, Hyogo, Tokyo, Kanagawa, Chiba, Saitama will turn down the lights on December 11, 2017. At the same time, some municipalities will also join this event. Yokohama city will turn the lights of the Ferris Wheel in Cosmo World, Minatominai district off, Tokyo Sky Tree will turn the light off too.
