A Japanese railway company Odakyu Electric Railway Co., Ltd. announced that they has installed temporary baggage keeper “Baggageport” at Shinjuku station.
Shinjuku station is the most-used train station in the world, it is used by 3.5 million people a day and set Guinness World Records. It is used by 5 railway companies East Japan Railway Company, Keio Corporation, Odakyu Electric Railway Co., Ltd., Tokyo Metro Co., Ltd. and Bureau of Transportation Tokyo Metropolitan Government. This station is also used by lots of tourist, because some lines from Shinjuku station reach popular sightseeing places like Hakone, Odawara, Takao mountain etc.
In recent years, the number of tourist visiting Japan is increasing more and more, at the same time, people having big baggages or suitcases are seen frequently. Small cubicles of comfort rooms always troubles those travelers who have big baggages, because there’re no enough room to locate them in the cubicles.
To solve this, East Japan Railway Company installed Baggageport at comfort rooms in the Shinjuku station. Baggageport was developed by Shibutani, and it allows people to keep their baggages safely outside the bathroom’s cubicles. At first, users pass a chain through a handle of a baggage etc, and then lock it with IC card like Suica or MIFARE. If users lose the IC Card they use or Baggageport has troubles, master key is also available. And users need to pay attention about the contents of the baggages, because Baggageport keeps the baggages themselves but it won’t care about the inside of the baggages.
