Kadokawa Dowango Inc. running Japanese popular video sharing service Nico Nico Douga(Douga means video in Japanese) announced the interim consolidated settlement of accounts from April to June in 2017. According to the settlement of accounts, the number of paid subscribers decreased to 2,430,000, though it was 2,560,000 as of March in 2016.
Nico Nico Douga has become famous by an unique function which allow users to comment on the video shared by users. And a few years ago, it was an only service which offers video streaming distribution function in Japan, it’s called Niconama. So Nico Nico Douga was the most used video web service before. On the other hand, users of Nico Nico Douga were suffered from chronic bad connection speed. Unpaid members couldn’t watch videos or streaming distributions comfortably, even now.
In these days, Youtube and other services related to videos, have started to offer a live streaming distribution feature for free, and they also have enough speed to watch videos even for unpaid members. So some distributors also started to distribute their video on those websites, and viewers left Nico Nico Douga too.
The balance of Kadokawa Dowango Inc. fell into red of 230,000 dollars on the first quarter of the 2017 fiscal year, though it was in black last fiscal year, reaching around 1 billion dollars.
