Yamato Transport Co., Ltd., which is a company running Kuroneko Yamato’s Delivery Service, is recruiting a part time drive with 2,000 yen’s wage per hour. 2,000 yen is equivalent to about 18 dollars. In case of Tokyo, the minimum wage per hour is 958 yen as of November, 2017. So it’s almost double payment.
Yamato Transport is a major courier in Japan, and its service Kuroneko Yamato’s Delivery Service is the most used delivery companies along with Sagawa Kyubin(Express) and Japan Post.
Those couriers are suffering from serious, chronic shortage of workers. Furthermore, December is the busiest month in a year for couriers. Because people will send not only Christmas gifts but year‐end gifts. To manage tons of packages, Yamato Transport has hiked its wage by the hour from 1,500 yen to 2,000 yen during the night, in some branches in Kanagawa and Aichi prefectures.
To improve the working environment and gather workers, those 3 major delivery companies has already raised the price. The hike might make the companies afford to recruit part timers with such the high wage.
