Japanese teachers have started to raise their grievous voices against club activities forced to attend almost without few payments.
Teachers in junior high school and high school are forcefully needed to take care of students doing club activities after school, it sometimes happens also before school, weekends and even holidays. Teachers’ husbands or wives are sometimes called club activities widows, because they’re not at their home always.
This custom continuing for dozens of years suffer teachers. Teachers can’t have enough time to not only do works related to preparation for their classes but spend time with their family. Additionally, they’re not paid for those club activities though they’re needed to take responsible for the activities.
As of now, if teachers attend the club activities more than 4 hours, 3,000 yen of an allowance is paid. It’s almost equivalent to the wage of high school student’s part time job. It will be raised to 3,600 yen from 2018, and also new segment which an allowance is paid for 2 – 4 hours activities will be added as well. But it isn’t still enough.
In these days, teachers have started to share their tragic situation through SNS like Twitter, Facebook, and a signature‐collecting campaign was held. It collected more than 20,000 signatures.
This custom was created from an idea that teachers are a kind of a holy vocation. But it’s not, they need to have enough time for them, and be paid adequately for their living.
