The most popular website for cooking recipe Cookpad has announced that they will launch their cooking video distribution service “Cookpad Store TV” from December 1, 2017.
Some cooking video sharing services like Kurashiru and DELISH KITCHEN has become popular in Japan. Kurashiru is ranked #1 in Apple’s app store. Cookpad is used the most as a recipe website with texts and pictures, and it also has a video sharing service. But speaking of cooking video services, it’s still playing second fiddle to them.
To change this situation, Cookpad’s working on the enhancement of their video related services. As a first challenge, they will start a new service “Cookpad Store TV”. It’s a bit different from other cooking video sharing services, because it’s tied with real retail stores. At first, retailers like a supermarket place a display monitor provided by Cookpad in perishable foods area. Cooking videos distributed by Cookpad will be played on the display monitor. Cookpad and supermarkets aim to promote the sales of the food used in the video provided by Cookpad Store TV. As of now, Kurashiru and DELISH KITCHEN offer their service only online, but Cookpad’s trying to expand their service to supermarkets all over Japan.
Cookpad has already ended the trials in 100 retail stores, and they project that 1,000 retail stores introduce this service within 2017.
