A convenience store “i shop Ishido Odaira branch” which appeared in a Japanese animation movie “Your Name” also called “Kimi no na wa“, gains popularity among not only Japanese people but tourist from other countries as a holy ground among the fans of the movie.
The move “Your Name” was filmed by Makoto Shinkai in 2016, the reputation of the movie was pretty good and it ranked #1 in the weekly movie ranking in Japan, Hong Kong, Thailand, Taiwan and China. Totally, it earned more than 250 million dollars. That is the forth highest box-office revenue in Japan, following Spirited Away, Titanic and Frozen.
The convenience store that was shown in the movie located in Nakatane town, Tanegashima island, Kagoshima prefecture. It appeared also in Makoto Shinkai’s film “5 Centimeters per Second”. Many fans of the movie, especially from China and Korea, visit there and leave a comment on the pilgrimage notebook placed in the convenience store.
Green Hotel Sakae is also popular among fans, because the scenery of the room which Makoto Shinkai stayed appears in the film too. A Japan Animation Federation included this island on the list of places where animation fans must visit. The tourist association in the Tanegashima island is trying to promote domestic and overseas tourism using these places.
