Japanese confectionery maker Calbee announced that they will stop selling the very popular potato chips “Pizza potato” from the middle of April due to a potato shortage.
Typhoon attacked Hokkaido last year
According to Calbee‘s person in charge, they couldn’t secure enough amount of potatoes because of the typhoon which attacked Hokkaido last year. Potatoes in Hokkaido account for 70% of their products. It is still in the air about when they could restart selling potato chips but it will depend on production of potatoes in Kyushu, Tokhoku and Shikoku regions. Those regions start harvesting potatoes from May.
